I made a custom set for a friend’s baby shower - here’s the (short) speech I gave. Feel free to use part or all of it!
These candles are a symbol of the light and promise candles often represent, but they are meant more specifically as a representation of this gathering and this community coming together in celebration of Jean, Sam, and baby Olivia as she comes earthside. We all have different relationships to Jean, but we’re bound in a common desire for her well-being. Each piece of this set is different and unique too, but together they make a cohesive whole.
To give this symbol strength and focus, one of us will act as a coordinator and collect phone numbers today. That person will text the others when Jean goes into labor. At that point, we light our candles, sending Jean our collective energy, love, and support and bringing the pieces together again.
